Successful Adoptions!

Fred was surrendered with Fergus in a cage half the size he should have been in. Both being male, they were fighting through a temporary barrier every night. The prior owner didn't know age, sex, or anything about them. Fred was a total lap pig, great with being picked up and handled. He was adopted out 09/02/2009.

Fergus was Fred's brother, and a lot more of a free spirit than Fred. He always had to explore what he could get into. Fergus was adopted out 08/28/09.

Roxie and Dodger were drop offs at the store in a tiny cage with no food and water. After a cage upgrade and a good diet they found their new home with my manager. Adopted 8/24/2009.

Hattie was a young female gerbil relinquished to me. She was rehomed 2/2/2010.

This little girl was adopted out 11/10/2009.

Adair is the only survivor from his litter. They were picked up from a lady who found them near her apartment. They had not gone to the bathroom in 3 days, and consequently I lost the girl and one of the boys. Adair is making up for both of them in spirit and spunk. I am keeping him unless the perfect home comes along.

IT the tarantula was kept in a small tank with no hide, which stressed him into throwing a good portion of his hairs on the back. He adapted to handling well and was adopted out 4/15/2009.

Martin was handraised from a tiny baby. He is a house mouse. Martin was released 10/1/2009.

Up for Adoption!

All animals adopted out can be returned at any point during the life of the animal. I do ask a variety of questions and may require a home visit depending on the animal in question before adoption will be finalized. If you have given up an animal in the past this may affect whether you are eligible. I aim for permanent homes and want every pet parent to be in for any and all "stuff" that may happen with that animal. Adoptions are to the Portland, OR area.

Nabiki is a mother cat that is now available after weaning her kittens. She is a lovebug that doesn't mind being draped over your shoulder and begging for canned food. Her only issue is she is not consistent in the litterbox when poop is involved. I think if she had access to a backyard that she may be alright. As I don't have a backyard, I can't test this theory.

In Process of Rehabilitation

These are in the process of being returned to normal habits and able to be easily cared for...some more than others. You must keep in mind most animals that end up in rescue may never be completely "Normal" and may always have idiosyncrasies. Depending on the animal they are socialized several times daily, exposed to new situations and new people. Training is done as much as needed per animal. If you are interested in one of these guys, get in contact and we can see from there.

Charlie is one of 5 puppies left without a mother after the birth went wrong. The mother dog was a stray and after a rush to Dove Lewis, it was determined that the rescuers could not even begin to pay to save her life. My family was called to see if we could help out since 5 puppies had led to not much sleep in the household. We took the two worst feeders and began feeding every 2 hours. When Charlie was 3 months old, a family we knew was interested in adding him to their family. After softball ended, we lost touch. A few times over the next 3 years we got to see him and were not pleased with what we found. In July of 2009 I received a message from the youngest daughter informing me if I didn't come get him, he would be going to the pound. We arranged to come get him the next day. He snapped at me in the first 5 minutes and I feared that we might be too late to do anything now after the what we realized later was abuse. Within 3 hours I was able to touch any part of him and the outlook was incredibly brighter. Later we started finding out the many issues. He was afraid of streams of water (Our guess is that he was sprayed with a hose as punishment when stuck on a chain in the backyard), men in baseball hats, didn't allow anyone to touch his muzzle (Missing a tooth, possible kick to the mouth), and the topper: He had possibly killed two cats, and was looking for more. After further assessment and training we are not adopting out to homes with cats. It's been tough but the last 13 months have made it quite apparent he is a wonderful dog but will require a specific home willing to further his training.
He is not ready yet, but possible new pet parents that want to help Charlie are encouraged to email me. Due to his past problems we will be doing a long transition from our home to his forever home with play dates since Bisous and Padma are his sisters and have loved having a third dog around.

Rainbow Bridge

These kids didn't make it out of the rescue due to various reasons, or were pets of mine that helped educate the public on rescue and proper pet care.

Stewie was a drop-off on the edge of my apartment complex. He had what is called Manx Syndrome. It caused severe leg deformities, digestive problems, and incontinence. These kittens often do not make it out of the shelter due to these issues. He had a home, got his medical care, and was a few weeks from being shipped to Arizona to be another Manx Syndrome cat when he passed. With cats like this often something fails that you didn't even know had a problem. He was most likely the rescue of irresponsible breeding. Stewie had so much life, and made it worth it to care for a cat with a severe disability.

The kittens were rescued on 8/26/2010. They were left in a cardboard box at only a day old. They were fine initially, but I lost all four by 8/30/2010. The first milk a cat produces is incredibly important for prepping the digestive tract, giving immunities to diseases, and just having their mom. The picture was the last survivor his could have been mom named Butterscotch.

Matthias was #13 in his litter and his human mom was tired of finding new homes. I took him intending on rehoming him...well, it didn't happen. He had chronic respiratory infections and was half the size that he should have been. He would eat anything, but his favorite food was ramen. He passed on 3/15/2010 a week after Stewie. He was a favorite at the store and converted many a rat holdout.
